We seek to support the development of African intellectual and institutional capacity to address the scientific, economic, sociological, and political issues, among others, that Africa faces in order to adapt successfully to the significant threat climate change poses on the African continent.  OSI would like to acknowledge the valuable inputs received from climate change adaptation experts, scholars, professionals, practitioners, and funders in shaping the vision for this work.

US EPA community environmental grants

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is making $2 million available in 2010 to reduce pollution at the local community level through the Community Action for a Renewed Environment (CARE) program. CARE is a community-based program that works with county and local governments, tribes, non-profit organizations and universities to help the public understand and reduce toxic risks from numerous sources, including those found in water. Since 2005, the grants have reached 68 communities in 34 states and territories. A recent evaluation by the National Association of Public Administration (NAPA) recognized the CARE program as a solid tested framework for engaging communities and other stakeholders.

Mazamas Research Grant Funding is Available                                                                                                                                           
Please distribute this information to the appropriate department, faculty member or graduate students within your institution. 
The Mazamas, a 3,000 member Oregon mountaineering organization headquartered in Portland OR, is soliciting research grant proposals from scientists and their graduate students.  Our organization supports research projects in keeping with the purposes of the Mazamas, including the investigation of geologic features, biotic communities, and human endeavors pertaining to mountains, forests, rivers, and lakes. 
The Committee evaluates each proposal and awards grants to selected applicants in the spring of each year. Grants range from $500 to as much as $3,500 from a total amount available this year of approximately $11,500.  The Publications Committee may edit and publish the final report of each grantee’s research in the Mazamas Annual Journal.
