Forests and climate adaptation course
I wanted to let you
know that the first US Forest
Service International Programs International
Seminar on Climate Change and Natural Resource
Management (www.fs.fed.us/global/is/climatechange/)
will be held
May 9 - 30,
2010 in
collaboration with the University of California at
Davis. The application deadline is February
8, 2010 and full details on the seminar and the
application can be found below in the two
attachments.
We are hoping to get
a mix of USAID FSN, NGO and government agency
participants from a wide geographic distribution so
if you could distribute this around WWF that would
be great. Participants should have strong
interest in or responsibility for forests and
climate change issues (adaptation, mitigation or
both). Our preference is for site or system
managers with hands-on experience managing forests
or grasslands, but influential policy makers are
welcome as well. In addition to providing the
participants with a good experience and educational
seminar, we hope to get insight from them regarding
the structure, content, and relevance of the
seminar so that we can make future modifications if
needed. Hence our desire for a wide range of
participants, who understand that this is a pilot
event and can provide a variety of perspectives
regarding possible improvements.
The course fee is
$6800, and as with our other international
seminars, direct sponsorship from USAID missions
and/or other organizations is encouraged. However
there are limited spaces to qualify for full USFS
IP sponsorship of the participants to the first
seminar, including tuition and travel, using USFS
funds. USFS IP sponsored funding applies to
all applicants (FSN, NGO, etc.)
If you have a
recommendation of someone who you think would
especially benefit from this seminar, please pass
me their name and contact information or feel free
to send this information to them directly. If
someone ends up applying it would be best if they
copied me on their application submission so that I
can flag it for Davis as they will be managing the
application process. Please let me know if you have
any questions and thanks for your help.
Best regards,
