News: Climate Adaptation Webcast
03/06/09 09:24
The Wilson Center is
a policy thinktank in Washington, DC. They’ve got a
webinar planned on climate adaptation, presumably
from a policy perspective, scheduled for 10 June.
I’m not familiar with the speakers or their
organization, so I can’t comment on any more on the
presentation itself. Their notice below.

UPDATE: You can see
a short video

I’m old enough that I was among the last generation to grow up with serious, warranted nightmares about massive nuclear exchanges between the U.S. and Soviet Union. I can remember being about six or seven and first learning about total nuclear annihilation; I had nightmares for a while, and I felt a consistent sense of fear and unease, certainly well into Bush 41’s presidency. I never had to deal with duck and cover drills like the generation before me, but I always felt aware of this potential doom, which felt completely out of my hands. The undercurrent of that time is hard to explain to people who haven’t lived through it.

I'm just back from a
quick three-day trip to Austin, Texas, where I gave
a talk with a Hewlett-Packard manager to some
undergrads. I gave three of these talks in
Pennsylvania about a month ago at three different
universities. The basic point of these talks can be
summarized as an answer to the question, What is
anyone doing about climate change? I'm describing
climate adaptation, and then talking a little about
my work in China. Then the other person -- Pierre
in PA, John in TX -- talk about HP's climate
mitigation work to reduce the company's carbon
footprint.
