News: Climate Adaptation Webcast
03/06/09 18:24
The Wilson Center is
a policy thinktank in Washington, DC. They’ve got a
webinar planned on climate adaptation, presumably
from a policy perspective, scheduled for 10 June.
I’m not familiar with the speakers or their
organization, so I can’t comment on any more on the
presentation itself. Their notice below.

Climate change's impacts on agriculture, the hydrologic cycle, and the
frequency and severity of natural disasters will likely make the poorest
communities across the world even poorer. A number of these communities
are also beset by conflict and instability, and thus face a dual risk.
International Alert, an independent peacebuilding organization operating
in 20 countries, has increasingly focused on climate change's potential
contributions to violent conflict, which itself hinders the ability of
governments and local communities to adapt to the pressures of climate
change. An International Alert report, "A Climate of Conflict: The
Links Between Climate Change, Peace, and War," analyzes these links to
conflict and provides 12 recommendations for addressing climate change
in fragile states. Report available at
http://www.international-alert.org/climate_change/index.php.
Dan Smith and Shruti Mehrotra of International Alert will discuss these
climate and conflict connections and what they imply for designing
adaptation strategies as the international community increasingly
focuses on climate adaptation in the run up to the December Copenhagen
negotiations.
